CAN COFFEE MAKING BECOME CLIMATE POSITIVE?

If you drink 2 cups of coffee a day, the yearly carbon emissions of your black gold might be as much as those of a flight from Oslo to Algiers*.

This calls for climate design: how might we reduce those emissions and redesign coffee making for a climate positive future? Starting from a regular drip filter coffee maker, and using our Low Carbon Design Tool, we created KoFF.

KoFF does a few things, that will reduce total emissions from your coffeemaking by some 50% - with a promise of more, in the near future.

*an average American drinks around 2 cups of coffee a day. Calculating with an average of 0,3 kg carbon emissions per cup, this gives some 220 kg per year, or about the same amount of emissions as the flight.

Brew only the coffee you need - wasting less energy, water and coffee grounds

Designed to last, repairable, and upgradable - and created with low-emissions technologies and materials

An ecosystem that helps you choose the most climate friendly ingredients, where possible from regenerative, carbon-sequestering agriculture

Even right now, KoFF might already save you the equivalent of the emissions of a flight from Amsterdam to Madrid per year. And as electric grids get cleaner and we find you even more regenerative ingredients, we believe a truly climate-positive cup of coffee will be possible, perhaps sooner than you think.

The best climate solutions are the ones we enjoy using - which is why we combined KoFF’s climate wins with business opportunities and improvements for the customer.

KoFF covers the entire coffee ecosystem from machine production to ingredient procurement - and with it, comes a lasting relationship with the user.

KoFF is full of big and small convience improvements - such as a water tank that only needs filling up every day or two, and a height adjustment that lets you brew straight into a single cup. But most importantly: KoFF helps you source the best ingredients possible. to use them to brew better tasting coffee.

Our Low Carbon Design Tool is tailored to physical products, while Business of Climate Solutions will give input to strategy and innovation for any company or organisation. Is your product, service or company in need of climate design? Let us know!
